You Know You’re a Nurse When…

File under:  Uncategorized
  • You would like to meet the inventor of the call light in a dark alley one night.

  • Your sense of humor seems to get more “warped” each year.

  • You know the phone numbers of every late night food delivery place in town by heart.

  • You can only tell time with a 24 hour clock.

  • You can tell the pharmacist more about the medicines he is dispensing than he can.

  • Every time someone asks you for a pen, you can find at least three of them on you.

  • Eating microwave popcorn out a clean bedpan is perfectly natural.

  • You notice that you use more four letter words now than before you became a nurse.

  • You live by the motto, “To be right is only half the battle, to convince the physician is more difficult.”

  • You’ve basted your Thanksgiving turkey with a Toomey syringe.

  • You can sleep soundly at the hospital cafeteria table during dinner break, sitting up and not be embarrassed when you wake up.

  • You wear your awesome Medical Scrubs to the mall, out to eat, to the bank, etc.

New Nursing Program To Spark Career Interest

File under:  Uncategorized

Orbis Education has recently announed the launch of a new nursing program in California in order to combat the nursing shortage in the United States. In conjunction with the University of Oklahoma, Sand Diego State University, and Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Orbis brings the program forward as a hope to raise interest in nursing careers. Traditional and new learning techniques and resources will be used in this program, appealing to different types of students and ensuring a higher likelihood of nursing success. Orbis Education is one of the largest providers of assistance to nursing education programs around the country.

“The San Diego program has proven to be a success, with the first Accelerated BSN class scheduled to graduate this December,” said Daniel Briggs, CEO of Orbis Education in a press conference. “We are looking forward to having the nursing program running simultaneously at two locations and plan to continue implementing similar solutions with additional hospitals throughout the country.”

Students who take part in this new program will surely need Nursing Scrubs and supplies to get started, rather than the back-to-school notebooks and pencils!

Three Great Ways To Customize Your Scrubs

File under:  Uncategorized

So you’ve got to wear scrubs to work in your clinic, dental office, or hospital. Scrubs don’t have to be boring! Here are three great ways that you can customize your scrubs.

  1. Embroidery

If you’ve got a sewing machine and like to embroider, your scrubs can be your next artistic canvas. Before any sort of customization, be sure to check with your employer to see the rules. Embroider your name, your favorite slogan, or just about anything. Patients and coworkers will find your scrubs to have that little something extra to make them stylish instead of static.

  2. Style/Cut

Scrubs-Max.com is just the source for this sort of flair. We’ve got the latest in Baby Phat and Cherokee scrub designs that are comfortable and flattering. Choose from the latest designs that fit your figure and display your personality vibrantly.

  3. Iron-Ons

Iron-On patches and decals aren’t just for tee shirts anymore. Iron-ons available at your local craft store can be a great way to customize your scrubs for work. Once again, be sure to check with your office before getting creative!

New HBV Treatment Approved

File under:  Uncategorized

The FDA has just given the okay to use the HIV drug Viread to treat chronic hepatitis B in adults. According to Gilead Sciences, the drug has been undergoing several ongoing clinical trials, yielding positive results. Several hundred patients participated in the testing, allowing for a broader range of examination. In addition, the FDA and Gilead Sciences are continuing to examine the possible side effects and application of the drug.

In the ever changing realm of medicine, this discovery could lead to more prospective research in the treatment of both HBV and HIV viruses, hopefully ensuring a cure in the future for the millions of people around the world who suffer from these conditions. In addition, this improvement in patient care could lead to other innovations in the health care industry. From drugs to medical supplies, new developments are occurring everyday to improve the quality of medicine for both doctors and patients. The medical world is changing; health care professionals should keep up on the latest trends in everything from disease treatment to work wear. Nurses and doctors alike can benefit from these improvements, even in everyday things like Medical Scrubs.

If you’re interested in learning more about Viread, view Gilead’s Press Release.

A Scrub-Tastic Experiment In Contrast!

File under:  Uncategorized

You know that kid from elementary school who could always be found wearing purple pants, an orange tee-shirt and pink and green sneakers with blue laces?  The kid everyone assumed got dressed in the dark?  Yeah, that kid was me – and no, you don’t grow out of it!  Not matching can almost be considered a hobby.  As much as it drives everyone else crazy, I love not matching!  To prove my point, I put together a sample outfit of how people would dress in my ideal world.  If you’re brave enough, try it out!  It’s sure to make patients and co-workers smile.

Sure, you can take this pretty Cotton Wrap Scrub Top in the blue Delta Dawn pattern and match it with a brown scrub pant, but what fun is there in that?!  I think pink works best – Shocking Pink Scrub Pants, to be exact!  These straight-leg pants include a belt and elastic waistband.  Even though you won’t match, you’ll still be comfortable!  And what about heads and toes?  Well, we have already covered blue, white, brown and hot pink.  The only logical addition is Forest Green Cherokee Docs shoes, and the Baby Phat Skull Cap, in the brilliant Phat Jewels print!

As fun as this outfit is, and as much as I advocate wearing it (often!), if this crazy color palette is more than your job will allow, you will not find yourself with clothes you can’t wear!  All of the above items are top-quality pieces that do work well with others – just check the bottom of each page for coordination suggestions.

Calling All Dental Hygienists!

File under:  Uncategorized

Scrubs-Max.com scoured the web looking for toothy facts you can share with colleagues, patients or friends.  We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

According to a 2005 poll in Money Magazine, the average youngster is pulling in $2.00 a tooth from the tooth fairy!  What happened to quarters?

While most of us would likely guess it was fruitcake, toothpicks are the greatest choking hazard for Americans.

Get ready for some serious dental cleaning in November!  Americans spend billions of dollars on Halloween treats.

Ooh la luxury!  Dental floss was originally made of silk.

A toothpaste recipe from the 1700s called for…dragon’s blood!  That could explain all the decay.  Dragon’s blood can be a tricky find.

Chewing gum is thought to not only clean teeth after eating (certain formulas), but also boost long-term memory and concentration.  Chew on that, gum nay-sayers!

What did the rabbit always make sure to wear when he was cooking?

A Hare Net

Why was the pet python relaxing on the beach?

She was just taking some time to unwind!

Why are cats always so aware of world events?

They never miss the evening mews.

Fun Excuses To Buy New Scrubs

File under:  Uncategorized

We’ve all been there.  You really want to buy new (insert item here).  It could be makeup, shoes, electronics, or, most likely, clothes!  The problem?  You don’t really need them, and can’t quite justify the purchase.  That’s exactly why we put together a list of reasons you absolutely have to buy new scrubs.  Pick your excuse and shop away!

Excuse #1 –  “There’s an intern at work who wears the same size as me, and I remember how cash-strapped I was when I started out.”  This excuse is one of the best.  Nursing interns often don’t have the time or money to eat well, let alone stock enough scrubs to keep from doing laundry every other day.  If you have some extras that you don’t mind parting with to make room for new prints and styles, gift away.  You’ll have done a good deed, and made room in your closet!

Excuse #2 – “I am working toward a promotion at work, and don’t want to look sloppy the day an opening presents itself.”  While your credentials and your work ethic will always trump your appearance, there is some merit to this excuse.  Looking fresh shows a commitment to your job and cleanliness, and that can never hurt your chances of moving ahead.

Excuse #3 – “My car is really dirty, and I can’t find any rags.”  If you’re desperate for an excuse, this one works nicely.  Take the scissors to those scrubs and get washing!  After all, if you are taking that car to the office or hospital, shouldn’t it look shiny?

Once the gifts are given, the clothes donated to charity, or the car has been washed, head over to Scrubs-Max.com for fashionable new

Casual Fridays Covered With Denim Scrubs!

File under:  Uncategorized

Julia Roberts once said, “On my best day, I am a seven-point-seven. I could be a hard eight if I felt great. If I went on a good run and had on my best pair of jeans, I could feel right on the money.” We couldn’t agree more about the jeans! Nothing is more comfortable and wearable than a great pair of jeans. They are truly the go-with-everything solution for looking good and feeling better. And as for the cash involved in building a relaxed work wardrobe? Cherokee Denim Scrubs are, as Ms. Roberts put it best, right on the money! Get your jeans on!

These Drawstring Denim Pants and Denim Scrubs Top are a stylish solution for men and women. The blue cotton denim is used throughout the collection, allowing for coordinated tops and pants. However, we all know one of the best things about denim is how well it goes with just about everything! Denim scrubs give you the opportunity to wear all those mismatched scrubs gathering dust in the back of your closet. Whether it was a top you had to have that you never found a pant for, or a set that was half-ruined in the wash or at work, denim provides an answer. Consider denim scrubs an investment in comfort, style and avoiding the morning scramble for the matching top!
